Best Baby Push Walkers

1. Sit-to-Stand Learning Walker by ‘Kindor Baby’

Quick Review: Chosen as our best baby walking aid because it works for babies from a very young age & has a very useful play + food table. Rolls well on most surfaces.

Comes well constructed and easy to use. Adjustable height, versatile table (for sensory play plus eating) and comfortable seat for your baby. Packs well for storage – we were impressed with the whole package.

We like both this sit-to-stand learning walker by Kindor Baby and the discovery baby walker by Safety 1st (below). This one just came out on top thanks to its great versatile table for play and eating.

Benefits:

  • Play & Food Table: The number 1 thing I love about this push walker is that the activity table can be used for both play and eating. Place the play pad down for them to play with the built-in sensory toys, or remove it to reveal a handy table below.
  • Wheels work well: The wheels work quite well on most carpets and does well on our tile floor that is not particularly flush. If you have fluffy pile carpet it may come across as a bit of a challenge for little ones.
  • Adjustable Height: Start at the lowest height with a 6 month old child. As they grow you may like to raise it somewhat.
  • Easy to Wash: You can throw the seat in the washing machine, while also being able to wipe down the plastic easily.

2. Discovery Baby Walker by ‘Safety 1st’

Quick Review: Great for beginners & babies who cannot hold themselves up yet. Get this if you want a walker that grows with your child and helps them develop leg strength.

q? encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B00EVLIHWM&Format= SL250 &ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=US&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=help prof 20&language=en USir?t=help prof 20&language=en US&l=li3&o=1&a=B00EVLIHWM

This one has a sturdy feel. You can adjust it up and down for the perfect height for your baby’s legs. It also has some great sensory toys on the front for entertainment. Its main benefit is for building strength in your baby’s legs while they train up to a level where they can walk for themselves.

Benefits:

  • Rolls Well on Low Carpet and Tiles: We think the wheels on this one are comparable to the wheels on our top pick (above). The wheels work quite well on most carpets and does well on our tile floor that is not particularly flush. If you have fluffy pile carpet it may come across as a bit of a challenge for little ones.
  • Adjustable Height: Start at the lowest height with a 6 month old child. As they grow you may like to raise it somewhat.
  • Easy to Store: It packs flat to be stored easily in your child’s cupboard.
  • Easy to Wash: You can throw the seat in the washing machine, while also being able to wipe down the plastic easily.
  • Fun Sensory Toys: The walker comes with toys that make dinosaur noises when squeezed.

3. John Deere Play Walker by ‘Bright Stars’

Quick Review: A great choice for a little one who loves cars, trucks and buses. We also love that it works as a seated and push walker.

q? encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B07NQ3NYXQ&Format= SL250 &ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=US&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=help prof 20&language=en USir?t=help prof 20&language=en US&l=li3&o=1&a=B07NQ3NYXQ

This is an impressive walker that can suit a baby just getting their legs or your toddler zooming around the house. Start with the seated walker and as they grow convert it into the push walker that you can see at the top of the above image. This versatility means the walker will last many months. We were also excited about the car theme which our little man can’t get enough of.

Benefits:

  • Cute Car Theme: The car theme can really excite your little one, especially with the wheel they can turn as they walk about.
  • Three-in-One: We love that this one is great for so many age groups. Use it as a seated walker when they are building up leg muscles before they can walk unaided. Once they’re grown, convert it to a push walker and watch them push their car around!
  • Adjustable Height: This one comes in three different heights which you can set quite easily. I felt there could have been more range in heights, but overall we’re happy that the height can be managed.

Keep in Mind:

  • .No Table or Storage Space: While the steering wheel idea is cool, note that this one doesn’t have a table, sensory toy or storage space in front of the child like most others on this list.

4. Wooden Baby Walker by ‘Jolie Vallee’

Quick Review: We love that this one is a ‘blank slate’. Your little one can integrate it into their play and carry their favorite toys around inside the cart.

q? encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B07MTWK3GL&Format= SL250 &ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=US&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=help prof 20&language=en USir?t=help prof 20&language=en US&l=li3&o=1&a=B07MTWK3GL

It’s a push walker that doubles up as a spacious carry cart. We love that it inspires imagination and encourages children’s play. Plus you can store so many toys in it when it’s not in use! We were disappointed that the handle is not height adjustable. Consider adding weight to the cart to provide further resistance and support for early walkers.

Benefits:

  • Tons of Storage Space: We love that your child can throw so much stuff into their cart. It’s really a blank slate for them to do what they want!
  • Great for Play: Kids who are attached to their favorite dolls or toys will be sure to push them around in this cart. Watch your child engage in imaginative play by bringing along their belongings for their next game.
  • Wooden Design: We love the wooden design which gives a more natural look than the plastic items on this list. The natural design fits in well in a Steiner-Waldorf style play environment.

Keep in Mind:

  • False Wheels: We first thought this push walker had nice large wooden wheels – that’s not quite right! You can see there are the regular wheels hidden under the walker and the wooden ones are just for aesthetics.
  • Requires Construction: It will arrive deconstructed and you’ll need to build it yourself.
  • Best for New Walkers: It’s better for children who can already stand and take steps on their own. If your baby isn’t up to that stage yet, you might want to get a seated walker instead.
  • Not Height Adjustable: We do wish this one’s handle was adjustable so any child can comfortably push it at any height.

5. Sit-to-Stand Learning Walker by ‘Rexun Baby’

Quick Review: A walker that doubles up as a play station. The buttons play music and animal sounds, plus there is a phone for pretending to have conversations.

q? encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B07FR2682P&Format= SL250 &ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=US&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=help prof 20&language=en USir?t=help prof 20&language=en US&l=li3&o=1&a=B07FR2682P

I do like that there is a good array of different sensory play toys which are aimed at helping language development. But I do not like that your child has to stop their walker to go and play with the panel of buttons. So, the ‘learn to walk’ aspect is disconnected to the ‘sensory play’ aspect. I prefer a more integrated play experience.

Benefits:

  • Sensory Play: The best thing about this walker is that it has a great array of sensory play toys like a telephone, animal sound buttons and music buttons. Really great for 6 – 30 month year old children
  • Volume Adjustable: It’s nice that you can adjust the volume of all the buttons.
  • Good for Carpet: Unlike many other walkers on this list, this one has some nice big wheels which makes it good for pushing around on carpet.

Keep in Mind:

  • Not Height Adjustable: It is 18 inches high which is about average for push walkers, but the height of the handle is not adjustable.
  • Plastic Construction: The piece appears to have some criticism for its plastic design. Some online reviews claim that it is cheap plastic and poorly constructed.

6. Doll Pram Push Walker by ‘Jolie Vallee’

Quick Review: Best for a child who loves their dolls and can’t go anywhere with out them!

q? encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B07MV29539&Format= SL250 &ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=US&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=help prof 20&language=en USir?t=help prof 20&language=en US&l=li3&o=1&a=B07MV29539

You can’t look past this one if your little one is in love with her dolls and wants to push them around playing “mommies and daddies”. It also doubles up a a great home for the dolls when they’re not in use. It is very similar in design and quality to the walker cart that is #4 on this list, and they are designed by the same company.

Benefits:

  • Great for a Kid who Loves Dolls: If your child loves dolls, here’s your cart. They can role play as mommy as they push their dolls around their play space.
  • Quite Spacious: You can fit quite a few dolls and toys in this push walker. Your baby can also see their toys as they walk it around.
  • Wooden Design: We love the wooden design which gives a more natural look than the plastic items on this list. The natural design fits in well in a Steiner-Waldorf style play environment.

Keep in Mind:

  • False Wheels: You can see there are the regular wheels hidden under the walker and the wooden ones are just for aesthetics.
  • Not Height Adjustable: We do wish this one’s handle was adjustable so any child can comfortably push it at any height.

7. Music Bubble Lawn Mower by ‘Hedgbobo’

Quick Review: If your little one is interested in watching dad mow the lawn, grab this walker and let them go wild pretending to mow. The bubbles that shoot out as you push it are also great entertainment.

q? encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B07RPPYHC4&Format= SL250 &ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=US&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=help prof 20&language=en USir?t=help prof 20&language=en US&l=li3&o=1&a=B07RPPYHC4

This outdoor push walker is great for the child who loves to mimic dad outside mowing the lawn. As they push they blow bubbles out the front – which is incredibly cool! It also plays music and makes a ‘cranking’ sound when you push it along. Bubble making liquid included.

Benefits:

  • Really Fun: The bubbles are so, so fun. In fact, your kid will probably want you to push it so they can run around and pop the bubbles!
  • Follow Dad Around: Watch your little one get excited whenever dad (or mom!) goes outside to mow the lawn. They’ll want to head out too and get involved! Mimicking our parents’ activities is a huge step forward in children’s stages of play.
  • Big Wheels for Outdoor Use: The size of the wheels makes it possible to use this one on grass and rough terrain. That’s unique for the push walkers on this list.

Keep in Mind:

  • Best for Outdoors: The amount of bubbles that get shot out probably makes this one an outdoors only toy.
  • It’s Light: It would be good if it had more weight to provide more resistance for your little person who is learning to walk.
  • Wheels Don’t Turn: It’s a little annoying that the front wheels only face forward making turning this one a little harder than others.

Review Criteria

The review criteria include:

Quality of Wheels

We want to make sure the wheels are not going to break or fall off. Most push walkers have stable rear wheels and free front wheels to make steering easier. Larger wheels tend to be better for getting around on thicker carpet.

Comfort

The seats and handles need to be comfortable for your child. We like how the first two walkers on this list have soft cushions for your child to sit on.

Washability

The plastic walkers did feel a lot easier to wash – a simple spray and wipe or sponge works well. Wooden versions are a little harder to wash, but not by a substantial amount. We also like the washability of the cushions for the first two walkers on the list. You can just pull them out and throw them in the washing machine.

Height Adjustability

We like walkers that have height adjustment options. The first three on this list have easy to calibrate heights so you can adjust them for the height of your child. As your child grows the walker can adjust with them.

Table/ Storage Options

We love the first walker on this list because it comes with both sensory toys and a blank table for your child to eat or hold their toys on. We also like the idea of the push walkers that have a lot of internal storage space for your child to push their dolls and toys around the house, yard or play space.

What to Think About When Choosing a Push Walker

What is the best Age for a Push Walker?

A child can start using a walker as soon as they are strong enough to hold themselves up. A good age range for seated walkers is 6 – 9 months. Once a child is walking independently, push walkers can be helpful for giving them some help as they get around.

Don’t forget that your child needs to develop leg strength, so also encourage your child to practice walking without aid so they can get those much needed muscles for walking around.

Safety Considerations

Make sure your child cannot fall off edges or down stairs while in their walker. It is very important that you scope out the space in which the child can walk and ensure all drop offs are fenced off so that your child cannot access them.

A walker can also give a child greater access to reach items they may not otherwise have reached, such as burning candles and hot pots and pans. Your child’s play environment needs to be safe for babies before introducing the walker.

Beware Fluffy Carpet

The thicker the carpet, the more resistance there will be to your child’s push. On high pile fluffy carpet, your child may have struggle pushing their walker. Hair can also get twisted into the wheels and accumulate – especially if the floors are dirty or the hair is hidden in the carpet.

At What Age do Children Learn to Walk?

A baby will usually take their first steps at about 9 – 12 months of age. By the time they are 15 months, they will likely have developed confidence to walk unaided. However, it is still acceptable and ‘normal’ for children to learn to walk later than this, so parents should not panic if their child is not meeting these ‘normative’ guidelines.

Before your child walks, they will develop important motor skills like sitting, rolling over and crawling. Focus on these skills first, then pushing themselves up to a standing position will come naturally.

A walker can be useful for helping your child to develop confidence and get around their play space. However, it is important that you also allow your child to develop walking skills and confidence without the aid of a walker.

Final Thoughts

At around the 12 – 24 months age a child is developing important motor and cognitive skills. It’s an important age for learning and development through play. Work with your child to help them develop the muscle strength and confidence to get moving about. A walker can be a fun toy for your child and has great value for developing confidence and mobility. But don’t forget that they also need time to walk unaided to get that strength for walking independently.
